PITTSBURGH, PA (6/10/2021) – A transformative, community-led public art installation was unveiled today at the center of Walnut Capital’s $20 million Bakery Square “refresh”, which triples its public gathering space with the addition of an expanded courtyard and indoor atrium and includes new dining options. Community leaders from Larimer, local public school students and local artist Janel Young celebrated the developer-led effort to better connect all neighborhoods to the growing economic and cultural engine of Bakery Square.
Following a call for artists that resulted in nearly 85 applicants across the nation and globe, Pittsburgher and nationally renowned Young was chosen to work with elementary students from Lincoln K-5 and the Urban Academy of Greater Pittsburgh. Together, they held workshops that informed the design and inspired students’ creativity, hopes and dreams.

DES PLAINES, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- PPG (NYSE:PPG) today announced the completion of a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® project in Des Plaines, Ill., which helped revitalize the facilities of Clean Up – Give Back, a nonprofit that organizes trash cleanups in Illinois. The project brought together 30 leadership volunteers from PPG and Ardagh Metal Packaging, who spent the day beautifying the organization’s new headquarters and community center.
Clean Up – Give Back has nearly 1,400 volunteers. They have performed 9,500 service hours in the community, picking up more than 41,000 pounds of trash in 2021 alone.
